Karen Stobbe
Karen was working as an actress, director, writer and
instructor of theatre when her Dad was diagnosed with
Alzheimer’s disease. Her life has taken on a new focus
and new meaning in combining the knowledge of her two
worlds into one life work.
Francis Battisti
Noted professor, speaker, consultant, and author, Francis L.
Battisti, offers individuals and organizations a pathway to
explore their potential and move toward desired
transformation.
His national reputation in the field of healthy aging, health
enhancement, executive health coaching, and conflict
disposition is manifest in his work with major organizations,
congressional and other governmental committees, and
numerous corporations. His workshops having been offered
throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and the
Caribbean, Francis offers participants a panoramic pathway
to live with passion and spontaneity, as well as to trust their
intuition. Francis has been a long-term care consultant for
over twenty years.

Francis’ impressive credentials as a seminar presenter and keynoter are highlighted
by national and international appearances for Fortune 500 companies, small
businesses, health organizations, educational institutions and national conventions. He
has been recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association Central New York Chapter as the
honoree of the “Memory Makers Award” for his efforts to make the Southern Tier a
better place to live and work. He is also the recipient of “The David Malcom Award”, in
recognition of his Exemplary Service to the Homeless. Francis is the creator of a
number of DVD’s and CD’s and the book, Checchino: A Father & Son Journey Toward
Dusk. In addition, Francis is co-author of the book, Tomorrow’s Weigh…The No-Diet
Way to Lose Weight.
He appears regularly on television and radio programs and has authored a variety of
articles addressing the areas of conflict, wellness and human potential. Francis is
currently a candidate for his PhD. in Human Development at Marywood University. He
lives in upstate New York with his wife, Helen.
Peter Notarstefano
Peter started work as the Director of Home and Community Based Services at the
American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging on January 3, 2007. Mr.
Notarstefano has over 27 years of clinical and management experience in the field
of Aging Services. He was the Director of the Geriatric Assessment and Case
Management Program for 15 years at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Sullivan
County, New York, His experience also includes nine years experience as Director
of an Adult Day Health Care program and a Social Model Adult Day Program that
was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Partners in Caregiving Dementia
Care Program . He was also the Director of Harris Home Health Agency, which was a
licensed homecare agency in rural Sullivan County, New York. He has additional
experience which includes his work as Director of Recreational Services at Campbell
Hall Nursing Center and Split Rock Nursing Home. He was also the Administrator of
the Adult Home at Elant at Goshen, NY.
He has his Masters of Science Degree in Gerontology from the College of New
Rochelle and his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the City University
of New York. His volunteer work included being a founding board member of the
Sullivan/Delaware Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association for four years, Board
member for the Sullivan County ARC for one year and an Alzheimer’s Support
Group facilitator for four years. He is currently on the Board of the National Adult
Day Services Association.

Lori Porter
Lori Porter started her career in long term care over
twenty eight years ago. She began as a dietary aide,
moved on to be a CNA for seven years, a nursing
home administrator for nearly seven years and
operations director of ten skilled facilities in the
Midwest. In 1995, she followed a dream and co-
founded the National Association of Health Care
Assistants (NAHCA) as a means to honor and
recognize the CNAs and caregivers who serve our
nation’s elders, as well as, elevate the profession of
nursing assistants through professional development,
advocacy, and empowerment.

She and her staff have grown NAHCA to a membership of more than 25,000
members nationwide and a partnership with more than 1000 nursing facilities
across the country. The Association has grown to support an annual National
CNA Conference bringing together more than 500 CNAs and caregivers from 38
states.
Lori is a nationally sought after speaker and is author of the book Everything I
Learned in Life I Learned in Long Term Care and co-author of Take it to Heart;
CNA Solutions to the Staffing Crisis.
Maggie Calkins, PhD
Dr. Calkins is nationally recognized as a creative, dynamic speaker and leader in
the field of environments for elderly. She is President of IDEAS: Innovative
Designs in Environments for an Aging Society, a consulting firm dedicated to
exploring the therapeutic potential of the environment--social and organizational
as well as physical--particularly as it relates to frail and impaired older adults. She
is currently working to develop a web-based resource that will comprehensively
summarize research-based and clinical literature on long-term care environments
for people with dementia, and one that provides comprehensive listings and
information about technologies used in long-term care settings.
